I've never really painted landscapes before and a snowscape painting is totally new to me... I have really been enjoying this term at art school. It's all the small tips and detail that make the difference to the bigger picture. I learnt about the use of tones on creating perspective and about grid drawing freehand. I love the colour palette so it has me excited to be painting more of these in the future.
The photo is of Sanatorium Lake nature walk in Mouth Macedon Ranges, Victoria. I chose to paint Victorian gums rather than NSW gum trees which are smaller, twisted and contorted and probably better for an abstract artist to tackle as they look so surreal.
Oil on canvas using paynes grey.

My other work of Convict Lake, in Mammoth USA from landscape term at art school.
